Why Is This Plan Important?

A Plan of Conservation and Development takes the ideas, goals, and planning work from the past decade and turns them into a clear, actionable direction for the next ten years. Updating the POCD gives the Town an opportunity to take stock of where it is today, hear from the community about what is working and what could be improved, and create a roadmap for the future. The POCD also serves as a legal framework for land use decisions made by Town boards and commissions.

Through the POCD planning process, the Town will have meaningful conversations with residents, business owners, and other stakeholders about their needs, priorities, and vision for the future. This process also provides an opportunity to align the Town’s goals with regional and state planning initiatives, creating a coordinated approach that establishes clear priorities and informs implementation actions. By strengthening this alignment, the Town can better position itself to pursue grants and other funding opportunities that help bring the community’s vision to life.
